The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) is Australia’s largest independent special educator. Founded in 1860, it is also one of Australia’s oldest charities.
RIDBC regularly assists more than 800 children and their families and provides hearing or vision screening for thousands more. It relies heavily on fundraising and community support to continue to make a difference in the lives of these children.
RIDBC provides a wide range of leading educational programs for children with hearing and/or vision impairment, including services for children with additional disabilities.
Through the RIDBC Teleschool, RIDBC works extensively with children in regional and remote areas around Australia.
As well as conducting centres at several locations in Sydney, Newcastle and the NSW Central Coast, RIDBC provides support services in mainstream schools across Sydney.
RIDBC is strongly committed to Australia’s indigenous community, screening over 1200 Aboriginal children every year for hearing and vision problems. RIDBC works with community leaders and area health agencies to provide sustained care to Australia’s indigenous children.
With over 150 year’s experience, RIDBC is an expert in the field of special education.
In affiliation with the University of Newcastle, RIDBC conducts world-leading research, developing better education practices for children with sensory impairment.
As a charity, RIDBC relies heavily on fundraising and community support to continue to make a difference in the lives of these children.
