About Splash for Cash

Splash for Cash is an annual, fun-filled swimathon that raises funds for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC), which provides quality and innovative services and education programs to children and families affected by hearing or vision loss.

We encourage people of all abilities and walks of life to join in. You don’t need to be a professional swimmer – you can swim one lap or one-hundred! You can swim with flippers, floaties or simply freestyle.

Swim as an individual or get a group of friends, colleagues or family together and swim together as a team. All the money raised will help RIDBC support deaf and blind children across Australia.

Swimmers can register to swim at one of the Splash for Cash venues or ‘Splash Out’ at any venue and any time.

RIDBC relies heavily on fundraising and community support to be able to continue to make a difference in children's lives. In order to maintain its intensive educational and research programs, the organisation needs to raise approximately $2.5 million every month.

All money raised through the Splash for Cash swimathon will ensure RIDBC can continue to make a difference in the lives of children living with hearing or vision loss.

The History of Splash for Cash

Splash for Cash is one of Australia’s longest running fundraising events – 2012 will be the 28th Splash for Cash!

Formed as part of the relationship between Rotaract and RIDBC, Splash for Cash was first held in 1984 at Lane Cove swimming pool and was conducted by Rotaract Sydney District 9680 (Northern Sydney). With just 40 swimmers the event raised nearly $10,000 and RIDBC’s Chief Executive at the time, John Berryman, and well–known Australian long distance swimmer, the late Des Renford, were amongst the line-up for the starting blocks.

From humble beginnings Splash for Cash has grown significantly and now has over 300 participants, including some who Splash Out at various locations across Australia.

Many ambassadors have supported Splash for Cash over the years, including various TV, sporting and radio personalities, such as Liesel Jones, Sami Lukis, Luke Jacobz, Guy Leech, Susie Maroney, RIDBC ambassador Tara Moss, RIDBC Ambassador Reuben Mourad and RIDBC Ambassador James Pittar.

Since Splash for Cash began it has raised more than $760,000 for RIDBC, making a huge difference to the lives of children with hearing or vision loss.
