Where will the money raised from the 2012 Splash for Cash go to?

The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) is aiming to raise $100,000 during the 2012 Splash for Cash with the money going towards assisting RIDBC in providing innovative and quality services and education programs to children living with hearing or vision loss all around Australia.

Can I do the swim at another location, or on another day?

If you can’t make it to one of the official Splash for Cash venues, you can organise to Ingham at any location and at any time that suits you.

To Splash Out:

  1. Register online and set up your fundraising page
  2. Download a lap count sheet
  3. Let RIDBC know the date and location of your Ingham – contact Heather.Klein@ridbc.org.au or phone on +61 2 9872 0237
  4. Start fundraising
  5. On the day, record the number of laps you swim on your lap count sheet
  6. Return your lap count sheet to Heather Klein – Private Bag 29, Parramatta NSW 2124

Do I have to be a good swimmer?

Image: Comic image 6Of course not! Splash for Cash is a fun day where anyone of any ability can join in. Some people will swim as many laps as they can, but there's no pressure to perform, and you can take it at your own pace.

Can I enter a team?

Yes! We encourage you to get a group of friends, colleagues or family together and swim as a team. Swimming as a team is a great way to motivate each other, have fun and raise money as a group.

I can't swim in Splash for Cash however I want to help RIDBC - what can I do?

Can I use flotation aids?

Image: Comic image 7Yes. Kickboards, children's floaties, and other aids are permitted for use.

Are sponsorships tax-deductible?

Yes – sponsorships over $2.00 are classified as donations and are fully tax deductible.

How many laps do I need to swim for each kilometre?

It depends on the length of the pool. Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre is a standard 50m Olympic pool but many other pools are 25m in length. 1km in a 50m pool is 20 laps; 1km in a 25m pool is 40 laps.

What are the rules?

  1. A completed lap is recorded after touching the pad at the end of the 50m lane.
  2. Teams may swim individually or all at the same time.
  3. Each lap will be counted by an official counter lap counter who will record your total number of laps onto a lap count sheet.
  4. Your swim must be completed in one attempt.
  5. You may stop, rest, eat or drink, but your waist must remain in the water.
  6. You may leave the pool to use the toilet facilities.
  7. All laps must be completed between during the event times.
  8. Participants under 16 years of age must provide written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
  9. Parents/guardians are responsible for the supervision and safety of their children.
  10. Splash for Cash is a smoke, drug and alcohol free event.

Are there prizes?

Yes, each event has its own prizes for the top fundraisers. Details of prizes will be updated regularly on the venue page for each Splash event.
