Swimming superstar and Qantas Ambassador, Leisel Jones, was poolside for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children’s (RIDBC) Splash for Cash swimathon on Sunday 30 March 2008.
Fresh from the 2008 Telstra Australian Swimming Championships, Leisel was on hand from 11:00am – 11:30am to encourage Splash for Cash participants and to sign autographs.
“I’m really honoured to have been asked to help with Splash for Cash. The Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children do fantastic work,” Leisel said.
2008 marked the 25th anniversary of RIDBC’s Splash for Cash swimathon, making it one of Australia’s longest running fundraising events.
Splash for Cash was proudly supported by Qantas, Swimming Australia, Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Rotaract and Rotary.
Australia’s number one selling crime writer and model, Tara Moss, is a long-standing ambassador for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC).
Tara is the author of the internationally bestselling crime novels Fetish (1999), Split (2002), Covet (2004), and Hit (2006), published in ten countries in six languages. She has also recently released her fifth novel, Siren (2009).
Tara’s crime novels have been nominated for both the Davitt Award and the Ned Kelly; two of Australia’s most prestigious literary honours.
Tara is a regular supporter and host of the Qantas Pathfinders Charity Flight and over the years has offered her time and support to ensure the success of a number of other RIDBC initiatives.
Caroline Pemberton, 21, is the 2007 Miss World Australia and a second year bachelor of Psychology student at the University of New South Wales. She is proud to support the Splash for Cash Swimathon.
A keen interest in humanitarian issues led to her involvement in the Miss World competition and having held the titles of Miss Northern Metropolitan and then Miss NSW she went on to win the title of Miss Australia 2007 in April.
Her passion for humanitarian work has also led to her appointment as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF as wellas being named the International Patron for Wakisa, an Ambassador for the Red Cross and an ambassador for Life Education. She is also a fully-trained volunteer at Westmead children“s Hospital and to date has worked with over two dozen Australian charities. Caroline is passionate about doing humanitarian work beyond Australian shores and recently returned from a 3 week trip to Uganda. In country, Caroline worked for Wakisa (a pregnancy crisis centre) in Kampala, visited the Internally Displaced Person Camps on the Sudanese border, toured UNICEF projects including their vocational training centres as well as speaking at local schools and visiting children in a rural hospital. Caroline also took part in a humanitarian trip in January of this year, volunteering at an orphanage in East Timor with a team from Father Riley“s Youth off the Streets.
